SAM - also known as "Clyde"
Male puppy born 4/4/09
Sam is a happy, energetic pup, with plenty of personality and humour. He
loves to work, be it learning a new command, or brushing up on older ones.
He is a quick study, and seems to really enjoy the learning process. Sam is
EXTREMELY food motivated, but will also work for a toy, but not as
enthusiastically. He originally showed some food aggression, but in the past
few months I have seen none of it.
He loves to play, enjoys balls and tug toys, and does like to play with
other dogs. He does play a little too rough for smaller dogs and can tend to
want to push a little too hard for some.He is high energy, and would
appreciate lots of exercise and lots of one on one time. He can be
demanding, and will try and whine to get his own way, when he wants
attention or when he doesn't want to do something (thought he's gotten much
better with that).
He has been taught the following in basic obedience:sit, down, stay, come,
wait, here, leave it, off, a bit of heeling. He also knows: Over (agility
jumps), go up (agility table, up and an auto down), circle (circle right),
gimme five. He will make an excellent agility dog, and has no fear of new
places, objects or people. He's fast and has fairly good body awareness.
Sam is a bit too focused on other dogs, which we have worked on. He's come a
long way since we got him, but still needs a reminder. A leash pop, or tap
on the but and a redirect with a treat works wonders. Sam wants to be top
dog, so far not in an aggressive way, he just wants to take command, and
will need an owner that's firm but fair.
I would say that he likes kids, but because of his energy level, pushier
temperament, and his mouthiness with new people, he would do much better
with older, dog-wise children, than a young child.
Over all Sam is a great dog, he just needs more time than I can give him
with two others (and a kid on the way), and would do better with female
companions.
He is neutered and UTD on shots and vet visits.

For Sam's interaction with other dogs please read below:
Brandy doesn't put up with crap from other dogs, so I've never had an issue
as far as she goes with other dogs, be they male or female. She's the boss
and they seem to know it. Sam tried to "have his way" with her initially and
for a few weeks, but once she'd had enough, that was it. However, he's too
rough for her in play, and she let's him know. Otherwise, they seem fine
together (no scuffles or anything like that).
I don't go to dog parks, or multiple dog settings, so I can't say for sure
how Sam would react in that setting. My personal opinion is that he would be
happier as an only dog, or with a female companion.
His behaivour with Mack (the bulldog) is something I've not seen before.
Mack is quite nervous around him and keeps his tail tucked. Granted, I don't
let the behaviour carry on, but this is what I've noticed. Sam will claim an
area, and not let Mack do anything in that area. He will bite at his face
until he leaves. Mack ends up with a small circle of the backyard or house
to be in, and if Sam sees him move, he will go back to biting. At first it
looks like play, but upon closer observation, it's bullying. Mack likes to
play with other dogs, and has never refused a game. We've had other
"strange" dogs in and out of the house, with never an issue like this, in
fact Mack is always the first to initiate play. He refuses to interact with
Sam now, and acts fearful around him (has even gone to far as yipping and
running away with tail tucked) which is highly unusual for this dog. He will
not play with him, & tries many pacifying signals to get Sam to stop.
